Poland has about a dozen children’s oncology centers and they all have excellent medical staff. What they don’t have, however, is the latest medical equipment needed for diagnostics and treatment. It was our ambition to create a network of some dozen additional medical stations (a few for each province of Poland), which would offer the parents of sick children an opportunity for early diagnostics and consultations with specialists. These was the theme and aim of the 17th Grand Finale, during which the Orchestra managed to raise a record sum of 40 million PLN.

Unfortunately, it turned out that this amount was not enough. In spite of our efforts we were still unable to fulfill all our ambitions.

Of course there is a lot of things that we did manage to do! For instance, we equipped 60 radiology labs all over Poland with modern ultrasound scanners and we bought ultrasound scanners for oncology clinics. Moreover, the Orchestra provided magnetic resonance labs for children with anesthesiological sets, which will help make sure that the anesthesia is proper and safe.

Sadly, all these things were not enough. Among other things we didn’t have enough money to provide oncology clinics with other important diagnostic machines such as CAT scanners or neuronavigators. (The latter ones help establish a precise diagnosis, locate a protuberance and safely operate it).

In order for our work in the field of children oncology to be really successful, we  decided to devote to this problem yet another Grand Finale.

We would like to remind you that apart from supporting the aim of the Grand Finale the money raised in January will be used to enable the Foundation to continue and fund its three all-national medical and educational programs.

•    We test the hearing of all infants,
•
treat apnea,
•
and we have successfully taught first aid to over a million elementary school students.

Our Children Insulin Pump Therapy Program has reached all children aged 0-10 who needed it. The program has been “taken over” by the Ministry of Health and the National Health Fund. The Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) Prevention Program was closed in 2008 because it was completed – all hospitals where premature infants are born had been provided with necessary equipment including both diagnostic and treatment devices.

Thank you for your support!
