Gold Medals The gold-and-silver medals first appeared in our auctions in 2004. Each of them (in each year respectively), was devoted to one of our medical programs. The medals replaced the Golden Hearts, which had been put up in WOŚP’s auctions for 10 years. It was the time for a change. Between 2005 and 2007, the gold-and-silver medals used to serve as prizes awarded by the Foundation to the most generous donors who bid during the Finale. The money raised through the auction was used to support one of our medical programs chosen by the Foundation. The Polish Mint used to make for us 300 medals every year. These shiny medals not only looked extraordinary but also they were elaborately packed. The center of a medal was made from 24-carat gold and its rim of Sterling silver. The thing weighed less than 33,33 grams and was placed into a transparent plastic box meant to prevent it from any damages. A certificate at the box informed that the medal had been created out of gold and silver donated to the Orchestra in the last Grand Finale. We would like to thank all people and companies involved in the auction for helping us: Sun Microsystems, Oracle Polska, Textus Virtualis, Polcar and Polkomtel. It wouldn’t have been possible without your support.
